My friend Gail sent me a photo of the winter woods in her backyard after my Mother’s death. I incorporated the entire photo as a backdrop for this image of the tireless quest of the woman in blue, as she searches every landscape, seeking traces or signs in the desolate urban and rural landscapes.

This piece captures the endless search for the loved one lost to death. In urban and rural environments, down narrow dark corridors, against darkened skies, we look for reminders of our loved one. Such an unconscious scanning and searching is a normal and important part of the way that we work through our grief.
